Charlottesville Makerspace Tours

Makers in Action.

Tinkersmiths offers tours of our Makerspace upon a scheduled request.

Costs are:

  • $10 per individual
  • $50 for groups of 5 to 9
  • $100 for groups of 10 or more

Why are we charging for this? Tinkersmiths offers workshops several times a week. No cost access to tools and talent. If you want to see what really happens here than sign up and RSVP for workshop. During non-workshop hours we are a for hire business that needs to produce goods or provide services to our clients to pay our bills. We also have a moral obligation to provide an interruption free environment to members/artisans working on projects.

Tours do not come with "Tinker Time" but we do offer private workshops and are a team building exercise destination in Virginia. These range from school groups to one on one session to discuss the various steps in prototyping a product. In depth discussions on using the equipment. Imagine how disruptive it could be at your job if there was a line of folks wanting to walkthrough your place of business. During this time you must address a verity of particulars and questions. You must shut down billable equipment that insurance regulations don't allow to be run in the presence of non members. That has become a very common reality for Makerspace operators around the world. Many of them address this fiscal reality by offsetting lost billable time to show off the space by making a tour a positive, inviting but paid experience. Many other types of manufacturing businesses offer private tours, such as craft breweries and distilleries.
